Take a look at the photo galleries from the LA Times story about the Hollywood fire. Why does the fire burn only on one side of this ridge?Remember that fire is a river that runs uphill? Do you see the wind direction? Note that the fire spread uphill and flowed into another "fire basin" only in the downwind direction?
