Meh

At the intersection of yuppies and middle class people of color. I love my neighborhood. Does that make me meh?

How does your neighborhood rate?

  1. It says military renters which is amusing, my neighbor next door is a two star general, there is an admiral across the street, where the head of the VA used to live. Technically they are military, but there are no rentals here. Whoever made that map has no clue. There are senators and congresspersons, as well as Lobbyists here. I suspect that they are being facetious.

    1. The different city maps are made by different satirists. The LA one is kinda accurate. Before I lived here, it would not have occurred to me to look for housing in meh. But, like Goldilocks, the intersection of Yuppie and Middle Class People of Color suits me.

Seriously, our orthodontist has offices in both Manhattan Beach and Torrance. To see the same dentist and get the same work, it's 30% cheaper in Torrance. We have to travel the same distance from our house for either office.

When we needed window screens, the price difference was 50% less inland than by the beach. When we needed just one done, we did it by the beach. When we needed 8 done, we went inland.

  2. They have my neighborhood pegged: orthodox jewish ppl. We aren't Jewish, but we are within the San Fernando Valley eruv and you can walk to numerous temples from my house. I need to go check out "Super Creepy 1950s Looking Area.

  3. Pasadena is labeled "Bro Town." I honestly have no idea what that is supposed to mean. If I google "Bro Town," I get a cartoon by and about South Pacific Islanders.

    1. Yes, I've no idea what that means, either. Did you ask someone in JPL?

My area is high in Pacific islanders.

    Well, they're not wrong!

I grew up in San Bernardino, which is certainly home to "meth heads [methamphetamine capital of North America for six years running when I was a kid], disease-inducing pollution [we had 'smog days' where we weren't allowed outside for recess], and foreclosures [after my time, but very true since the housing bubble burst in '08]".

My parents now live at the junction of Alhambra, South Pasadena, and San Marino, which is quite accurately in between "upper class Asian families" and "gangs with scattered artists" and right north of Monterey Park, aka "eat authentic Chinese food here".

  5. Astounding traffic -- spot on. Aggressive drivers, too.
